Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of High Relative Density ?-TiAl Alloy Using Irregular Pre-Alloyed Powder

Preparing high relative density ?-TiAl alloy by pressure-less sintering at low-cost has always been a challenge. Therefore, new kind of non-spherical pre-alloyed TiAl powder was prepared the reaction TiH2 and Al 800 °C to fabricate high-density Ti-48Al via sintering. The oxygen content controlled below 1800 ppm using coarse (~120 ?m). sintered densities ranged from 92.1% 97.5% with temperature varying 1300 1450 °C. microstructure compact greatly influenced temperature. as-sintered samples had near-? structure 1350 °C, duplex 1400 nearly lamellar To achieve full densification, non-capsule hot isostatic pressing performed on samples. As result, compressive strengths 2241 MPa 1931MPa were obtained, which higher than existing alloys.
